For most introverts, working with a large group of people sounds like a nightmare. So if wedding photography is something you want to pursue, this could stop you from chasing your dream. But should it be this way? Should you give up wedding photography just because you’re introverted? Taylor Jackson says no! In this video, he talks about his own experience and shares some tips for becoming a successful wedding photographer.
Taylor believes that you can “learn” to be an extrovert. I’d rather say that you can learn to act like one, at least when it comes to approaching people, communicating with them, and directing them. As a wedding photographer, these certainly are some skills that you’ll need to master. However, if I may add, dealing with people could leave you pretty drained after a whole day of shooting. So, if you’re introverted, make sure to find some time to be alone and recharge. While extroverts may feel more comfortable working with people, Taylor believes that it’s better to be an introvert as a wedding photographer. He says that you will likely draw equally introverted people, and your energies will match. Even if not, introverts are great listeners and they’re great to be around. As I was writing this I realized that, in fact, all the people I love most are introverts. This video also got me thinking about wedding photographers. the best ones I know are introverts as well. They know how to direct people, and I assume they learned the skill. They know how to do it, but they’re very pleasant and not bossy. They are also very discreet and unnoticeable when taking candid photos, so they capture some epic moments. In the video, Taylor analyzes Facebook comments from a guy named Paul, who believes that “your life will be a misery if you do something you don’t have a natural flair for.” But as an introverted wedding photographer, Taylor doesn’t see his life as a misery. What is a “natural flair” in this context anyway? No one is born to be a wedding photographer. And once again, you can learn everything, especially if it falls within your definition of happiness.
