Back in 2020, Sony officially announced its entrance into the drone market. The official launch is getting closer, and Sony keeps building hype. The company took its Airpeak drone to field testing at Iriomote Island, Okinawa, Japan. The resulting landscape video is now published, so you can see how Sony’s upcoming drone performs.Advertisements
Sony revealed the Airpeak drone at CES 2021 this January. As we could have seen then, it’s not a tiny camera drone, but rather a fully professional piece of gear. In the video above, you can see it carrying Sony a7S III and FX3 cameras, as well as the newly released 14mm f/1.8 GM lens. So other than seeing how it performs in air, we can see that it can safely carry a relatively heavy payload.
Last month, Sony tested the Airpeak drone in a wind tunnel. Of course, they published the results, too, since they’re pretty impressive. The drone stayed fairly stable even at 43.62mph (19.5m/s) winds. For now, we still don’t know much about the Airpeak drone. Sony hasn’t shared the full specs, we don’t know when exactly it will be launched or the price tag it will come with. But when it was initially introduced, Sony said that it would come “in spring 2021.” And if everything goes as plan, I guess we’ll know more about it very, very soon. [via DPReview]
