Tokina has announced its new atx-i 11-20mm f/2.8 CF lens for Nikon and Canon APS-C DSLRs. As an APS-C lens, it offers a full-frame field of view equivalent to roughly that of 18-32mm on Canon and 17-30mm on Nikon and it features a fixed maximum f/2.8 aperture throughout its range. Tokina says that despite being built for Nikon F and Canon EF, the new lens should have no problem on Nikon or Canon mirrorless bodies using the FTZ and EF-EOS-M adapters for those respective bodies.
Designed primarily for subjects such as landscape, astrophotography and architecture photography, its elements feature WR coatings to help repel water and oil and reduce the effects of fingerprints. The aspherical elements, including two glass-moulded elements, help to control spherical aberrations and distortion. Anti-reflective multi-layer element coatings also help to suppress flare and ghosting to improve contrast and colour when working in the extreme lighting conditions that can present themselves in these genres. As with a number of Tokina’s past lenses, the 11-20mm f/2.8 features the one-touch focus clutch mechanism that allows you to quickly swap between manual and autofocus modes simply by pulling the focus ring back or pushing it forward. The new lens is set for release in Japan on July 10th, with a price of JPY 73,000 + tax, which equates to around $682. Although, that’s the Japan price. It seems that the lens is available to pre-order in the USA already for a mere $529 in both Nikon F and Canon EF flavours. There’s no word on whether or not the US and other regions will see the same July 10th release date. You can find out more about it on the Tokina website.
