Vitec Group, the company behind Manfrotto, Lowepro, Joby, Lastolite, Gitzo, Vinten, Syrp and many other big names in the photo and video industry has today announced that they’ve acquired LED lighting manufacturer, Quasar Science. They say the business will become part of Vitec’s “Production Solutions Division” alongside Litepanels. Quasar Science products have typically been used in large scale film and TV productions, although the last few years they’ve started creeping into lower end productions, regularly popping up in the background of YouTube videos as part of the set illumination.
Vitec says that Quasar Science products complement those produced by Litepanels with growth opportunities to expand each product into the other’s market sector. The four co-founders of Los Angeles-based Quasar Science, Steven Strong, Evans Brown, Jay Yowler and Ray Gonzales will remain with the company leading the rest of the team as they always have.
– Stephen Bird, Vitec CEO It will be interesting to see how Quasar and Litepanels products develop from here. Will we start to see tighter integration between the two systems? Or perhaps tech and designs from one will be used by the other on occasion. We’ve seen similar mergings of tech and style between Joby & Manfrotto, as well as Lowepro & Manfrotto since Vitec acquired them both in 2017. – Steve Strong, Quasar Science CEO
