The world’s most copied dog photographer is taking us behind the scenes on her adventures in a brand new podcast. Kaylee Greer and Sam Haddix host the show that aims to entertain and educate listeners. The duo recounts their photoshoots, sharing their mistakes and learning experiences as well as their success stories in ‘Adventures in Dog Photography.’
Kaylee is an incredibly gifted photographer with a great eye for fun, quirky shots that sell a dog’s character. This is no accident – it’s the exact reason she became a photographer. Her first passion is dogs, and since she was a young girl, she has always wanted to help them. Photography came along later down the road when she was volunteering at dog shelters and noticed the terrible photos. Each dog has a story and a personality, but the photos from god shelters did nothing to portray these things. Kaylee embarked on a career focussed on dogs, promising to give them a voice and raise their chances of adoption.
Her partner, Sam, was right there the whole time this was happening. Sam is also a photographer as well as a musician (take note of the podcast theme music, Sam made it) and works hard behind the scenes. Sam corrals dogs, hauls gear, directs lights, and manages websites. He’s basically the key to holding things together in the Dog Breath world. Having Sam recount his experiences and anecdotes in this podcast is incredibly valuable to offer the complete picture. It’s a true behind-the-scenes series.
One thing that makes this brand-new podcast stand out among the huge crowd (it seems like everyone has a podcast nowadays) is the breadth of experience Kaylee and Sam bring to the table. The commercial work undertaken by Dog Breath Photography includes multinational companies running global ad campaigns as well as imagery required for dog treat packaging. Everything from the shelter dog adoption photos all the way up to NatGeo magazine covers makes up the experience these pair are pulling their experiences from. It’s not only magazine covers – Kaylee also starred in her own NatGeo Wild series, Pupparazi, and authored Dogtography.
Episode One, entitled ‘Cody in the Cave’, is the story of a dog named Cody. This adventure is all about what happened during a shoot in an epic sand cave that just did at Kanab, Utah. This episode starts with the best theme song I’ve ever heard, which includes lines pointing out that dog photography is an actual career. Kaylee and Sam’s personalities really shine through, and this podcast is super-listenable and relaxed. The analogies they come up with are so funny, and each of their stories packs both wisdom and humor. I reached out to Sam and asked why they’re adding a podcast to the mix. Here’s what he said: Here’s the photo they talk about in Episode One. They describe their journey in dog photography as well as how they came to shoot Cody unexpectedly whilst on a trip between Bryce Canyon and Zion. In a place with no phone signal, they had to explain that they wanted to trek out to the middle of nowhere with Cody without being able to show his owner what they could do.
