Even though it’s not their primary purpose, stock photography websites can be a source of hilarious images. But the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) made a stock photo gallery with the sole purpose of being funny. The gallery is filled with photos that poke fun at most common stereotypes about Canada, and it’s absolutely hilarious.
CIRA is the organization in charge of Canada’s ‘.ca’ top-level domain. Like most of us, their team is aware that stock photos are often weird, boring, and “full of oddly happy people staring at screens.” But at the same time, they know that stock photos are necessary when building a website. So, they decided to offer you to “add a little Canada” to your website (or any other project).
The self-mocking humor begins with the very description of the gallery, which is full of “original, maple syrup-infused” photography as CIRA describes it. All photos are made in the typical stock photography style but filled with Canadian stereotypes. All photos in the gallery are free to use and share pretty much anywhere, and the only condition is to give proper credit to CIRA/.CA. Not only that the photos are funny, but so are their descriptions. Even the Terms of Use were written in a humorous fashion that will put a smile on your face.
Here are a few of my favorite photos: Personally, I love this kind of healthy, self-mocking humor. I only selected a few photos, but you can check out more here. This gallery has brightened up this Blue Monday for me, and I hope it will do the same for you. [via DPReview]
