Samyang Optics has announced their new AF 75mm f/1.8 FE lens for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras. Weighing in at a mere 230, this makes it one of the lightest portrait lenses on the market – and Samyang claims to be the lightest specifically at 75mm. This is the 5th member of Samyang’s “Tiny but Almighty” AF series lenses, which Samyang says are the result of market trends and the growing needs of users. The lens joins Samyang’s AF 18mm f/2.8, 24mm f/2.4, 35mm f/2.8 and 45mm f/1.8 lenses in the small, lightweight autofocus FE lens lineup.

The Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 FE features a “Custom” switch that allows you to change how the focus ring operates. When shooting in AF mode, the focus ring doesn’t actually do anything, normally. This switch allows you to use the focus ring when shooting in autofocus mode in order to control the lens aperture instead. They say it can also be further customised through future firmware updates using their USB Lens Station.

There’s been no official word on a price for the Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 FE yet, or exactly when it’ll become available, but it’s rumoured to be €389 (~$422) in the EU – around $180 cheaper than the Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 FE.
