As well as cables and wireless tethering, the other thing Tether Tools is well known for is their range of power system for various cameras and tools. Products like the Case Relay have made lives a lot easier for a lot of DSLR and mirrorless shooters when it comes to power. But that isn’t the only power solution they offer. We had a chat with them at PhotoPlus 2019 to find out more about their power options and how they can help photographers and filmmakers.
The Tether Tools ONsite system is a range of products to give you power options on location. When you’re shooting on location, you often want some of the power comforts of the studio, and these allow you to get some of that out in the middle of nowhere.
Their ONsite D-Tap Battery with V-Mount has been out for a little while now and is your fairly standard, albeit high capacity 150Wh V-Mount battery, but with a USB socket capable of putting out up to 2.1 Amps. It also offers a constant 10 Amp output through the D-Tap and V-Mount pins. It’s TSA approved for travel and can be used in conjunction with the ONsite D-Tap to AC power supply for more demanding use. The ONsite D-Tap to AC power supply, as the name suggests, takes power from the V-Mount battery’s D-Tap socket and gives you a pair of AC outputs. There’s a 110v version for the USA and a 220v version for international use. There are also four Type-A USB sockets on the side of the unit, too. You can’t power just anything from it, though. You’re not going to be plugging studio strobes or heaters into this thing, as they draw far too much current. But they do supply up to 85 Watts, which will allow you to easily charge camera batteries, power LED lights or even charge up a laptop. There’s also a new adapter coming out that turns the D-Tap socket into dual Type-A and Type-C USB sockets. They say that it offers enough power out of the Type-C to fully charge up a MacBook Pro. And they have a 26,800mAh USB power bank on the way, too, which can also charge up your MacBook Pro through its Type-C socket. It’s an interesting set of products that offers quite a bit of versatility on location. You can find out more about the whole ONsite range on the Tether Tools website. — DIYP’s coverage of PhotoPlus Expo 2019 is sponsored by Luminar, Cosyspeed, PhotoPlus, and Spiffy Gear – check ’em out.
