Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 IS is a newly announced lens from Olympus. If you’re looking for a super-zoom lens for, say, wildlife or sports, looks like this one could be the right choice. Since it’s compatible with Olympus’ 1.4x and 2x teleconverters, you can get up to 1600mm equivalent focal length with this lens.
The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 IS is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. When used on its own, it provides a 200-800mm equivalent focal length range. But as I said, you can push that even further and pair it with M.Zuiko Digital MC-14 1.4x and MC-20 2x teleconverters.
As for the build, the lens packs two Super HR (high refractive index) elements and two HR elements, which should help to limit spherical aberrations. Additionally, there are three ED (extra-low dispersion) elements used to control chromatic aberrations and color fringing. You might conclude from the “IS” in the name that the lens features optical image stabilization, and it offers approximately three stops of stabilization. Olympus promises autofocus performance that’s smooth, quiet, and fast, so you can use this lens for both stills and video. Finally, the lens is weather-sealed, dust- and moisture-proof, so you can work with it even in harsh conditions. Take a look at the specs and some more photos: The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 IS is available for preorders at the price of $1,499. Shipping is expected to start on 8 September 2020.
