There’s been a word that GoPro Hero6 could be launched by the end of this year. We didn’t know many details then, but the latest leaked photo of the camera and the box tells us more. Apparently, the upcoming GoPro Hero6 will shoot video at 4K at 60fps (like the new iPhone). For comparison, the Hero5 shoots at 4K 30fps.
From the leaked photo, we can see some of the features on the camera box. Other than shooting 4K at 60fps, it also captures 12MP stills, and it’s waterproof up to 33ft (10m). According to Photo Rumors, all accessories from Hero5 Black will fit the GoPro Hero6, as they’re identical in design. Other than 4K video, it will also be able to shoot 1080p240 and 1440p120. They write there’s also a slight chance that the Hero6 will be available in different colors. There is no official information on the price and availability. Photo Rumors reports that the release date is September 28, but it’s still the unofficial information. The interesting question is, though, if GoPro can compete with cheaper action cams with the same (or better) features. YI 4K shoots 4K at 60fps and costs $340. It’s less than the GoPro Hero5 which shoots 4K at 30fps. I believe GoPro Hero6 will certainly cost more than $340, considering they’ve built a strong brand. But as DPReview writes, those who want a recognizable brand and more accessories to choose from could turn (back) to GoPro even if it costs more than Yi.
