When Google abandoned Nik Collection, DxO Labs acquired it and announced plans to develop it further. Despite going into receivership recently, DxO Labs hasn’t given up on updating the Nik Collection after all. According to the most recent announcement, the long-awaited update is coming in June 2018.
The company has confirmed going into receivership for the sake of “restructuring the business.” As Photo Rumors reports, DxO Labs chose to file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection. The company claims that this process shouldn’t last for more than a few more weeks, and it “will not affect [their] customers in any way.”
In June 2018, DxO Labs launches the new version of the Nik Software Collection, after acquiring it from Google last year. The company’s goal is to fix bugs that have existed so far and to ensure full compatibility with the latest Mac OS and PC platforms. In addition to launching the first “by DxO” version of the Nik Collection, DxO Labs also announces a new version (v. 1.2) of their flagship software, DxO PhotoLab. They will release a free update which will include “improved local correction features.” The software will also support seven new cameras, including the Canon EOS 2000D and the Sony A7 III. So, despite the apparent difficulties DxO Labs has had lately, it seems they are not giving up on their plans and the previously announced updates. I guess now we just have to wait for June and see what they’ve come up with in the latest versions of Nik Collection and DxO PhotoLab. [DxO announcement via Photo Rumors]
