Capture One has released Capture One Live, a new platform for photography and collaboration. It’s meant for both real-time and post-shoot collaborations between everyone involved – photographers, clients, and production team members, no matter where they are.
Since the pandemic has forced us into more long-distance collaborations than ever before, Capture One has decided to jump on the bandwagon and introduce its own platform for this purpose. You can add everyone involved in a project, and they can then view, rate, and tag images directly on any browser, on any device, and naturally – anywhere in the world.
Capture One Live integrates with the Capture One workspace. It can be available in both Catalogs and Sessions, and you can find it as an icon in the Toolbar. Click the icon, select the collection you want to share, set a password if you wish, and click “Start Sharing.” Live Session for seven days will activate, and a URL to share with your collaborator(s) is generated instantly. The link you share with your team opens up an interactive browser view of the collection with file names, color tags, and/ or star ratings, and the ability to view each image at full scale. You can add or remove photos at any time. You don’t need to have Capture One open for changes to take place, but if the Catalog or Session is still open, the adjustments are reflected in real-time. Additionally, there’s a “Follow” option that follows live captures if shooting tethered, or follows any edits made in Capture One in real-time. There is no limitation on the number of active Live Sessions or files shared in a session, and you can have up to 25 collaborators simultaneously. Of course, it’s not only the pandemic that calls for remote shoots and collaborations. There are other perks to this kind of approach: more flexibility for schedules and team members, reduced commuting time and travel costs, and greater accessibility and efficiency. “Nowadays we’ve all become used to remote productions thanks to the COVID pandemic, but the need for remote viewing and reviews has existed since well before,” says John Rains of production company Backstory. “When the budgets are tight, a client can’t travel or a creative director has schedule conflicts, the ability to easily give feedback on a production remotely is a game-changer.” Capture One Live will be available starting today (1 February 2022). The pricing starts at $9.99 per month, and it’s probably needless to say that you need to have the most current version of Capture One to run Capture One Live. You can buy Capture One Pro 22 as a perpetual license for $299, upgrade from select previous generations starting at $159, or buy it as a subscription-based program for $20 per month. You’ll find more info on Capture One’s website, and if you’re not ready to commit yet, you can start with a free 30-day trial.
