Blackmagic has announced a massive price drop with the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K camera. They’ve knocked 40% off the purchase price for the body alone, bringing it down from $9,995 to $5,995. And this isn’t just a sale, either, this is a permanent price reduction, according to a post on the Blackmagic Facebook page. Released last year, the Blackmagic URSA Pro Mini 12K, like the name suggests, allows you to shoot 12-bit Blackmagic RAW footage up to 12K resolution at 60 frames per second. Dropping down the resolutions, you can get 8K DCI at up to 110fps or 4K Super 16 at up to 220fps. It’s an impressive tool, to say the least.
The new $4,000 discount appears to be a permanent fixture, making it the same price as the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2. This makes the future of the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 very uncertain, as many will choose to go with the significantly higher resolution camera. Will the 4.6K G2 also get reduced in price? Or will it simply be phased out and disappear as stocks dwindle? Posted by Blackmagic Design on Thursday, August 19, 2021
At $5,995, it’ll also be stealing competition from a lot of other cameras, too, like Canon’s $5,499 EOS C70, Sony’s $5,998 FX6 and even the RED Komodo 6K at $5,995. Blackmagic’s not exactly unknown for upsetting the video market. The Pocket Cinema Camera 4K pretty much kicked all the other manufacturers into overdrive trying to catch up. Perhaps they’re hoping to do the same again, forcing their competitors to increase capability and reduce costs even further. Who says competition is a bad thing? The Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K is available to buy now for $5,995 and has been shipping for about a year already.
