Aputure has today released four new LED lights in their entry-level Amaran range. Two of them, the Amaran P60c and the Amaran P60x are LED panels and the other two, the Amaran COB 60d and Amaran COB 60x are Bowens mount LEDs. As the name suggests, they’re all 60 Watt lights and can be powered by NP-F batteries on location or included AC adapter. The two Bowens mount lights are the COB 60x and COB 60d, which are bicolour and daylight balanced lights respectively. The P60x and P60c are bicolour and RGBWW LED panels. So, let’s take a look at the COB lights first.
Aputure Amaran COB 60d/COB 60x – $169/$199
The Aputure Amaran COB 60d and 60x are full-size Bowens mount LED monolights. The 60d is daylight balanced and the 60x is bicolour offering a range of 2700-6500K. Both lights offer a CRI and TLCI of 96+ and come with an included Bowens mount reflector with a 15° beam angle. This means that the 60x puts out 37,775 lux at 1 metre while the 60d puts out 45,100 lux at 1 metre. Both lights offer stepless dimming from 0-100%, remote control via Aputure’s Sidus Link ap with 9 lighting effects on the 60x and 8 lighting effects on the 60d. Power is provided either via the included dual Sony NP-F battery plate or AC adapter. Or, you can buy the optional D-Tap DC battery cable for connecting it to something like a V-Mount.

Both lights come in a hard foam case – similar to those that come with gimbals – rather than the cloth padded case you might be used to. This might make things a little more awkward for storage and portability if you’re trying to save space, but this type of case is very strong and should protect your gear well if you’re able to compromise on the space they can take up. At the moment, the price and availability of these two lights don’t yet appear to have been announced, but we’ll update this post as we find out more. Note: Update at the bottom with pricing and availability information.
Aputure Amaran P60c/P60x – $349/$249
Aputure has also announced two LED panels today. The Amaran P60c and P60x, which are RGBWW and bicolour respectively. The bicolour P60x offers a colour temperature range of 3200-6500K, a CRI of 95+ and a TLCI of 97+. The RGBWW P60c offers a tunable colour temperature from 2500-7500K with green/magenta adjustment. It offers a CRI of 95+ and a TLCI of 96+. As with the COB lights mentioned above, these can also be controlled using Aputure’s Sidus Link app. Both panels feature what Aputure says is a “unique LED configuration” that “creates more organic shadows”, but both panels also come supplied with a small softbox and grid. So, if you want to soften that light to create a single larger light source, then you can. Of course, like putting any softbox on any light, you will lose a little power.
The P60x bicolour light comes with four built-in lighting effects, which are Paparazzi, Strobe, Fireworks and Pulse. The RGBWW P60c includes ten – Lightning, paparazzi, strobe, cop car, fireworks, pulse, faulty bulb, fire, TV and party lights. The P60c also includes 46 gel presets, with four user-configurable preset buttons. It features an integrated Sony NP-F battery plate, and it appears that you can actually use the light as an NP-F charger when you’ve got the AC adapter plugged into the light and the wall – which makes it pretty handy if you need to regular switch between AC and battery power.
The Aputure Amaran P60c and P60x prices also don’t appear to have been published yet, nor has a date of availability. Despite pricing and availability not being available, they look like some decent options for low-power (and hopefully small budget) needs for small productions, interviews, YouTubers, etc. Hopefully, they’ll be priced to compete. As soon as we know how much they’re all going to cost and when you can get your hands on them, we’ll update this post and let you know. Update: The Aputure Amaran P60x Bicolour LED panel is available to pre-order now for $249 individually or as a 3-light kit for $719. The Aputure Amaran P60c RGBWW LED panel is also available to pre-order now for $349 individually or as a 3-light kit is $990. Shipping for the LED panels is expected to begin at the end of October. The Aputure Amaran COB 60d and COB 60x are available to pre-order from the Aputure website for $169 and $199 respectively. A shipping date for the COB lights has not yet been released. You can find out more about them on the Aputure website.
