I never perceived Goodnight Moon as creepy. Quite the opposite, actually. However, text-to-image always has some weird ideas, and so doesJoris Bax. He didn’t only use Midjourney’s AI tool to create illustrations for the famous bedtime poem. He also added a super-creepy voice and music to it, turning it into pure, distilled nightmare material. Something like this music video, only even scarier.
If you’re not familiar with Midjourney, its a small, self-funded independent research lab. They explore “new mediums of thought” and their text-to-image AI “expands the imaginative powers of the human species.” It has recently opened its beta for everyone, so you can join in and create illustrations yourself. You get around 25 free queries with the system, and after a trial, you get several options to buy full memberships and illustrate whatever the hell you can imagine. Personally, I adore spooky illustrations like this, and I love that Joris paired his video with voice and music to match the mood. As one of the comments says, “Good night, moon, good night, light, good bye, my ability to sleep tonight.” And now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll go watch it again!
