Advertisements The 2019 contest received 327,000 entries from 195 countries and territories. They submitted their photos to Professional, Open, Youth and Student Focus competitions, with ten categories under the Professional competition. But this year, the Sony World Photography Awards is seeing some new initiatives.
First, the works of Latin American photographers will be celebrated in a new category, Latin America Professional Award. Then, in conjunction with Sony China, the Awards have also launched the China National Student Photography Award, and you can more learn about it on the contest’s website. Another novelty comes within the Youth competition. Photographers aged 12-19 are now challenged to enter up to three images per month to different themes. And last but not least, a new Environment category has been introduced to the Professional competition. The goal is to put the focus on the growing importance of this topic in both fine art photography and photojournalism. As I mentioned, the contest is still ongoing and you have a few months left to submit your images. Here are the deadlines:
Youth competition: Last day of each month from June – December 2019Student competition: 29 November 2019Open competition / National Awards: 7 January 2020Professional competition: 14 January 2020
And now, without further ado, I will leave you to more fantastic photos that have been submitted so far to the 2020 Sony World Photography Awards. I had a tough choice selecting a limited number of them, but you can see the weekly picks on the World Photography Organisation’s website. And for even more amazing images, take a look at the galleries from the previous years:
