Everybody knows the exposure triangle by now, right? ISO, aperture and shutter speed. Once you know your scene’s exposure value, you can just balance out the three to get a good exposure. And as you adjust one up or down, you need to adjust another in the opposite direction to compensate. Well, what if one of them isn’t really anything to do with exposure? That’s the argument put forth by Chris Lee of the YouTube channel pal2tech, and it’s a compelling one....

An Instagram post from Kodak recently infuriated Chinese people. In fact, it caused so much backlash that Kodak deleted the post and issued a public apology. The company shared a photo by French documentary photographer Patrick Wack, showing the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. They linked the photographer’s account which mentions the mass detentions of the Uyghur people in the area, which caused a fierce backlash. Patrick Wack took photos in the areas of Central Asia known as East Turkistan or Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region....

Lastolite by Manfrotto (since 2016), previously known as Lastolite when it was acquired by Vitec in 2011 is rebranding again. This time, it’s dropped the Lastolite branding completely and will now become part of the Manfrotto brand. The company says that the rebrand is “in response to industry and consumer behaviour changes over recent years as still and moving images continues to converge”. The Lastolite by Manfrotto section of the Manfrotto website has already been modified to reflect the change, pointing users to the newly branded products....

California-based lens manufacturer Veydra has officially shut down its business. Despite the praised price-quality ratio and a successful Kickstarter campaign for MFT cine lenses, internal conflicts have sent the company out of business. Veydra’s co-Founder Ryan Avery posted this weekend on the company’s official Facebook page. He notified users that Veydra has gone out of business “due to the conclusion of ongoing litigation between the founders of the company.”...

Macs generally tend to hold their value quite well on the used market, but sometimes you just don’t want to get rid of your old computer when you get a new one. Apple’s recently announced M1 iPad Pro has gotten a lot of people excited, and for quite good reason. Apple’s M1 chips have shown some impressive performance gains in MacBooks and Mac Minis since their release, especially as more applications release native support for the new CPUs. The M1 iPad Pro orders should start arriving at customers homes in the next couple of weeks, but some early benchmarks have hit Geekbench and the results seem to back up Apple’s claim that the iPad Pro is up to 50% faster than the previous generation....

MIOPS has today announced the new Capsule Pro motorised pan and tilt head for shooting timelapse and motion control video. Released four years after the MIOPS Capsule360, I’m not entirely sure what makes this different/better than its predecessor, except for the increased load capacity and it looks like some highlight features from the Capsule360 (such as subject tracking) aren’t even mentioned with the new Capsule Pro. Like most of the other MIOPS gear releases, the MIOPS Capsule Pro is being launched through Kickstarter with pledges currently starting at $299....

Once limited to the realms of Hollywood, motion tracking has become easily easily accessible today. Adobe After Effects comes with three trackers. There’s the original 2D tracker that AE has had for a long time and also the 3D camera tracker introduced in CS6, which analyses your footage to recreate your camera’s movement. After Effects, however, also comes bundled with the Mocha planar tracking application. It’s a separate application, not a plugin, so it gets easily missed by many users, but it can succeed where the others fail....

Rumours of a Nikon D750 replacement, which won’t be called the D760, but either the D770, D780 or D790 (the current favourite seems to be D780), have been around for a few weeks now, and the camera itself may be officially announced as early as next week, a report suggests. Nikon Rumours believes we might hear an official announcement and say they have an unconfirmed date for January 7th, 2020....

Adding to the standard look and the six existing “premium” colours, Nikon has added an all-black camera to the Nikon Z fc lineup that’s giving me serious Nikkormat FT3 vibes! Specs-wise, it’s no different to the regular Nikon Z fc, which means it still doesn’t have a port for a remote trigger, but the new all-black look does look very cool and is perhaps even more accurate to the “retro” feel of old Nikons....
