The camera capabilities of the Raspberry Pi took a pretty big leap forward when they released their new High Quality Camera module last year. The then-new module allowed you to finally get full manual control over your exposure, but it also lets you attach CS and C mount lenses (or just about anything else with the right adapter). It was only a matter of time before somebody built it into a “real” camera form factor, and it actually didn’t take long, as this film-to-digital conversion shows....

After Samsung announced that it is delaying the release of the $2,000 Galaxy Fold smartphone due to some pretty significant screen breakage issues, Dutch website Let’s Go Digital has discovered a new Samsung patent for a different kind of phone display. This display is also sort of flexible, in that it wraps around the phone, however, this one does not fold and unfold. It’s essentially a double-sided phone with a single display that covers the entire front and then wraps around to cover about 3/4 of the back of the device....

It appears Samsung is having exploding phone issues again, although it’s not the battery this time, but the camera. US-based attorneys at Hagens Berman have filed a class-action lawsuit against Samsung over defective Samsung Galaxy S20 devices that experience the camera glass shattering unexpectedly during what they describe as normal use. The lawsuit was filed on April 27th in the US District Court of the District of New Jersey and accuses Samsung of fraud, breach of warranty and violations of a number of consumer-protection laws....

The new Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 has been rumored and even some photos of it leaked earlier this week. Now it’s officially out and ready for your orders, and it’s priced at $899, which is pretty tempting compared to other similar lenses. The 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens comes in Sony FE and Leica L mount. It was designed for full-frame cameras, but of course, you can also use it on APS-C bodies....

Sigma has now officially announced the availability of the upcoming Sigma MC-31 mount converter. This adapter allows you to pop PL mount cinema lenses onto your L mount cameras. This should be very handy for those more video-oriented L mount cameras like the Panasonic S1H and the CinemaDNG-capable Sigma fp. Development of the MC-31 adapter was first announced at IBC 2019, but at the time, there was no mention of when we’d actually see it be released....

Well, that was quick. It was only yesterday that word leaked that Sigma had a 14mm f/2.8 pro zoom in the works. There weren’t even any leaked photos. But now, it’s official Sigma has announced the new 14mm f/2.8 DF HSM Art series ultra wide angle zoom lens. Although how long you may have to wait for it to be able to actually get your hands on one is anybody’s guess....

Sony have today announced the release of the full frame Sony FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro lens. This announcement doubles the number of lenses in their full frame macro range to two. It also gives those looking a “standard” lens an option other than the FE 50mm f/1.8, and the ability to focus much closer for 1:1 magnification. It features many of the same design and features of its longer sibling, the FE 90mm f/2....

Major changes have occurred at Sony, as the company has moved almost the entire camera production from China to Thailand. According to the reports, this is due to two main factors. First, it’s due to the intensifying conflict between China and the U.S. And second, due to China’s “zero covid” policy. Sony is a Japan-based company selling its cameras worldwide, producing them in factories in Asia and Europe. Most of the manufacturer’s cameras have been produced in China to be distributed across Asia, the U....

It’s only 18 months since Sony released the full-frame Sony FX3, a compact cinema camera based on much of the same tech found in the Sony A7S III but with a design better suited to filmmaking. It’s been a popular camera – and we just used two of them for our IBC coverage in Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago – but now there is a new contender. Sony has today officially announced the new Sony FX30, which is essentially an APS-C (or Super 35mm, if you prefer) version of the FX3....

Sony had scheduled an announcement via YouTube streaming event for July 7th, but that event has now been postponed over what is rumoured to be “inappropriate” timing for people in China. July 7th marks the anniversary of the “Marco Polo Bridge Incident” in 1937. No official reason, however, has been mentioned by Sony. The previously scheduled stream has been removed from their YouTube channel and Sony posted the simple 10-second video (above) in its place, noting the postponement....

Extreme low light performance isn’t a new thing. We’ve been able to pretty much see in the dark since Nikon launched the D3s. But, now that the megapixel wars seem to be mostly over, it’s the next big metric in camera performance. Who has the highest ISO? Who does it with the least amount of noise? The most amount of detail? The best colour? Sony’s E mount shooters have enjoyed extremely good ISO performance with the A7R II for a little while now....

Well, after a blurry photo of what was claimed to be the Sony A7 IV was apparently posted and then deleted by Sony China over the weekend, now it seems that Sony might be finally ready to announce the Sony A7 III successor – and not a minute too soon. The A7 III is a great camera, but it’s been fraught with shutter problems that Sony seems to have thus far evaded....

Photographing couples can be great fun. It can also be a great big pain, especially when you are faced with a couple that have a pretty drastic height difference between them. The common tactic is to simply hunch the taller person over to match the height of the other. It’s not a very flatting look, and doesn’t really make for great photos, but it’s just a natural reaction. Peter Hurley’s approach is a simple one....

That really comes into play when I’m doing sports, I want to stop children, I want to stop something that’s flying around really fast I go to auto ISO. Now remember I’ve always said “Don’t let your camera control two of the exposure triangle. Only let it control one.” So in this case I would set my shutter speed, I would set my aperture and then I would let the camera choose the ISO....

A British student was recently arrested for spying in Egypt after taking photos from an airplane. Reportedly, the 19-year-old Muhammed Fathi Abulkasem was accused of taking a photo of a military helicopter, and he was detained on arrival at Alexandria airport. Abulkasem’s family told The Guardian that the young man was accused of “collecting information of a military facility.” He was traveling from Lybia to Egypt with a friend for a vacation....
